POLITICAL MUSIC SURROUNDS Dr HECTOR WEERASINGHE’S CHAIR
The Director of the Colombo National Hospital Dr Hector Weerasinghe retired only a few days ago. Who comes to the position of the Director next? This position is very prestigious and hence there is much enthusiasm among many eligible Doctors to be appointed as the new Director, for his replacement and is a much spoken subject among the medical fraternity. There is an unprecedented demand for this position vacated by the Director. There is a big scramble for this post. There is lot of speculation and views on this matter such as “give him instead of the other “etc.
In the meantime some have sought political influence. After Dr Hector Weerasinghe’s retirement, Dr Anil Jasinghe was appointed as the acting Director. But from the 1st of July Dr (Mrs) Sujatha Senaratne who was the Acting Director has been appointed as the new Director. She is the wife of Minister Rajitha Senaratne. It is however reliably known that applications were called for this post up to 25th of June, which was the deadline. It is now learnt that the deadline date has been further extended as there a few more Doctors who are eligible also could apply. It is now reported that several doctors have protested for this extension.
